St. Wilfrid’s Summer Fayre 2011

The run-up to the Summer Fayre was a time of meetings, planning, cajoling and cadging as we gathered together all the necessities to make it a success.  All kinds of goodies appeared in the church porch, many bottle-shaped for the Tombola stall , Bric-a-Brac, toiletries, jewellery, books, CDs and DVDs, and, on the day, cakes of every kind, a complete plant stall, a side show which involved finding the right key to open the cupboard containing the prize, a well-stocked BBQ, also refreshments in the small hall.  The younger people were also very busy with their stalls and sideshows.

Many prayers went up as we watched the weather forecast daily and we thanked God for the marvellous day of sunshine that he provided.

The Church green looked very festive with gazebos, umbrellas and strings of bunting festooned around.

At the end of the day, after the last vestiges of the festivities had been put away, we returned home to recover and await the financial results of our endeavours - a very gratifying £1,236.60.

In addition to this we have now raised £95,000 since started our Fund-raising and are now awaiting the decision of the Diocesan Trustees on the sale of the presbytery and land.
