Prayers of Intercession

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY, 2010 -  PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION

 Fr.Rory: On this special day of Remembrance we thank God for his love for each one of us,
             made known in your son, Jesus Christ.

 Reader: God our Father, we thank you for your great love for us

             the love that redeemed us, and all mankind,
             the love that freely forgives,
             the love that watches over us day by day,
             the love that is stronger than death,
             the love that can bring peace and joy into the lives of all.

Fr. Rory: Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Reader: We thank you for the many ways in which the Church influences our lives, and we
            pray that through those influences we may become ‘a channel of your peace’ so that
           ‘where there is hatred, we can bring love;
           where there is despair, we can bring hope;
           where there is sadness, ever joy
           and where there is doubt, true faith in you.’

Fr. Rory: Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

 Reader: We pray that your Spirit may so move in the hearts of people, that the barriers of
             fear, race, suspicion and hatred, which separate so many, may crumble and disappear.
             We pray that love will conquer all.

 Fr. Rory: Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Reader: On this special day we turn our thoughts to those who have fought and died in wars.
             Years have passed and time has forgotten but we WILL remember them.

Fr. Rory: Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Reader: As we remember all who have died, let us also remember that Jesus Christ is the light
             of the world, a light which no darkness can extinguish. We remember them all and
             light the Paschal Candle to symbolise the light and love of Christ, a light which shines
             and brings hope.

 Fr. Rory: Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus
             Christ, Amen
