Young People’s News
St. Richard’s Students’ Pizza Topping Night
David Law reports: June’s event went very well (apart from the broken window). 13 young people attended and the prospective Year 7′s were reassured by the older teenagers about travelling by bus to St. Richard’s, etc. After some discussion it was agreed that the older students (over 14′s) will take a lead in organising avtiviities for the younger group. We have agreed that the best time for meeting is Tuesday, 6.30-7.30pm. The target age range will be 10-13 years. James will take forward organising potential activities and Mikolaj will take the lead in establishing a forum of older students who will help in the running of activities. The young people were quite motivated. Although it was suggested that we meet every fortnight it was agreed that we meet once a month at first.
Our thanks to David and his helpers
OPEN HOUSE AT FR RORY’S, 13 OCTOBER, 2010
David Law reports:
This event was a ‘bring and share’ food night with games arranged in the hall. 13 young people attended (7 from St Richard’s and two ex) and all appeared to enjoy themselves. At the end of the evening one of the young people read out the Pope’s message. The hall is of course cramped but between the hall and the Parish house there is a safe environment particularly with the new fence and gate at the front of the church. Four adults turned up to help and parental consent forms were handed out as this is part of our Diocesan safeguarding requirements.
This is the third such event wih the last one taking place when Fr Marek was here on 20th July. They will continue on a monthly basis and the focus is on allowing teenagers a place to hang out, organising fun games for the younger ones and allowing a chance to informally meet our Parish Priest. It is important not to over supervise or push religion, however we did ask for suggestions as to how to plan for the forthcoming visit by Bishop Kieran.
