Children’s Liturgy at St. George’s

St George’s Children’s Liturgy

St George’s Children’s Liturgy Group was formed in September 2010.  At present, we have 12 children ranging in age from three to ten.  Our leaders are Valeria Cassidy, Bernadette Grantham and Anne Sullivan.
The aims of a separate Liturgy of the Word with children are to enable them to hear God’s Word -  at their own level; to discover a message – through discussion and craft activity; to respond to the Word both in prayer and within their daily lives.

The Children’s Liturgy takes place during the 8.45am mass on Sundays. We have a family Mass every six weeks when leaders, parents and children take an active part in the Mass.  Guest appearances by Deacon John Truman are also not unknown in our Children’s Liturgy.

We welcome more children joining our Children’s liturgy please contact any of the leaders for further information or simply attend the normal service and bring your children along with you.
Please note that Children’s Liturgy only runs during term time.

Leaders for our Children’s Liturgy

Bernadette Grantham
Bernadette has lived in Polegate and been a member of the parish of St George’s for 28 years.  She has three grown up children who attended St George’s church for many years. As the parish Safeguarding representative since 2010, Bernadette has taken an active role in reforming and running this new Children’s  Liturgy group.
Bernadette works part-time for an Eastbourne nursing agency, mainly working with young people with a learning disability. Previous to this she worked at Willingdon Community School in the Learning Support department and in the R.E. and English classes.

Valeria Cassidy
Before moving to Eastbourne over two years ago Valeria was involved in childrens’ music ministry with Trocaire Focolare and Kids Net in Ireland. Valeria home-educates her four children who take part in the liturgy group. Valeria is joined by her stalwart husband/janitor Carl who helps mop up afterwards and all that jazz!!

Anne Sullivan
Anne and her husband Paul moved to Polegate from Bexley in May 2009.  They have three children and six grandchildren. They are proud that three of their four school age grandchildren attend Catholic schools, and that the two eldest were confirmed this year. Anne trained as a nurse at Guys hospital, and spent the last thirteen years of her career setting up and managing a Community Palliative Care team in Greenwich.
As well as being one of the leaders of St George’s Children’s Liturgy Group, Anne is also a volunteer at St Wilfrid’s Hospice, a Community Champion for Care for the Carers and a volunteer for Contact.
