St. Wilfrid’s Youth Group are working very closely with the CAFOD Team on Connect2 and have chosen El Salvador; the village allocated is Puentecitos.
A speaker will be coming to St. Wilfrid’s to tell us all about the village and the Youth Group will be giving a Presentation in the Hall afterwards.
The Children’s Liturgy Group are deciding what ‘gifts’ (from the CAFOD Gift Catalogue) to sent to the Third World. – The Parish has raised £400 from the ‘Coppers for CAFOD’ bottle scheme.
Update: February 2011
On Sunday, 9th January, the CAFOD representative for El Salvador, Sarah Smith-Pearce came to speak at the 10.30am Sunday mass on the aims of Connect2 and how the village would benefit from our donations. It would help to provide many items necessary for helping them to become self -sufficient and also able to support their neighbours. many of the schemes were eco-friendly. After mass she showed a Power Point presentation of the village and its people and the ingenious methods they had arranged to make up for the lack of facilities that we all take for granted. Sarah was also able to answer many questions. We learned that it might be possible for one or two of our children to join a youth group travelling out El Salvador next year. It was decided that our children shoul put together a Power Point presentation showing the activities in St. Wilfrid’s.
A cheque for £400 was sent to purchase CAFOD Gifts chosen by the children in the Liturgy Group and they were carried up in the Offertory Procession as our gifts to our brothers and sisters in the Third World.
