Coppers for CAFOD

Thank you all for your generosity — so far this year we have collected just under £500 in the bottles for CAFOD. We have had two special collections this year — Fast Day collection in April raised £245.55 and East Africa Disaster Appeal in July raised £405.21 and money still coming in
for this.

CAFOD Day

Fr. Rory and the Leaven Group have agreed to a CAFOD Day at St. Wilfrid’s on Sunday 18th September. We are very fortunate that Sarah Smith-Pearse the CAFOD Latin America/Caribbean Communications Officer will be coming to give a presentation to us about our Connect2 Partners — Puenticitos (Pour-entay-sitos) in El Salvador immediately following the 10.30am Mass. This is a Parish planned event with great involvement and planning from the Children’s Liturgy Group.

The planned programme is:-

10.30am Mass – A folk Mass organised by the Children’s Liturgy Group. Annette Wake has details of a recommended Mass setting for CAFOD with the Children doing Readings, Bidding Prayers etc.
We would ask that at the end of Mass you stay seated for a short while as Sarah gives her presentation. When she came last time the Hall proved to be far too small and many people were disappointed, so this time we are using the Church.

After the presentation there will be —

a)       refreshments served on the lawn (weather permitting)
b)       a home- made cake stall run by the children (who will be asking for cake donations  nearer the time)
c)       Jean Barham will be selling raffle tickets after Mass in a couple of weeks. Draw to take place after this CAFOD Mass.
d)       Presentation of cheque to Sarah by Fr. Rory of monies in bank plus profits from cake stall, raffle, teas, coffees and any donations.
e)       Ann Fielder and David Hoad are preparing a Greetings Card for us to sign on the day  which will go to Puenticitos.

David Law and David Hoad will be recording the Day and photos and DVD will be sent to Puenticitos of our Parish. Also perhaps photos to A&B News.

Thank you all again for your support of CAFOD —there are plenty of CAFOD bottles in the foyer for you to take away and fill up with your copper.

Thanks again.
